FAQ

1. "I can't sleep; when my partner moves in bed so do I, and then we tend to roll into each other..."

With conventional mattresses, the helical wires run from side to side across the mattress transmitting partner movements across the bed. Miracoil helical wires run from head to toe, transferring weight displacement down the length of the bed, minimising the disturbance you may feel from your partner.

2. "My old mattress sags..."

If your bed sags in the middle, causing backache and roll-together, it is because your body weight is concentrated in the shoulder to hip area. Conventional mattress springs cannot compensate for this, as they are the same spring throughout the whole mattress. A Miracoil mattress, because of its continuous wire construction, allows for a concentrated zoning of springs in the centre section of the mattress. This centre section supports your shoulder to hip area, giving greater postural support and reducing sag.

3.I feel like I'm rolling out of bed..."

Sleepmaker Miracoil and Miracoil Plus mattresses allow you to sleep right to the edge of the mattress, giving you greater edge support. The Miracoil comfort edge increases the area of mattress you are able to sleep on, effectively reducing that 'roll out of bed' feeling.

4. "My current mattress is lumpy and uncomfortable..."

Other spring designs have rather large gaps in their surface wire coverage, which creates 'pockets' the mattress fillings tend to sink into. Miracoil was designed with you in mind, and the springs were designed to help reduce lumpiness. Miracoil offers you a continuous spring coil design - the top of the springs have a Z shape, providing more surface coverage and providing more support for both you and the mattress comfort fillings. This Z shape keeps the fillings on top of the bed, where they should be.

5. "My last mattress did not last as long as I expected, will a Sleepmaker bed last?"

The Better Sleep Council advises consumers to buy the highest quality bedding they can afford, then replace old bedding every 8-10 years. After this many years, even the best bedding may no longer provide the best comfort and support. Miracoil has tempered wire, a high coil count, a special centre zone and is backed by a five year guarantee. A sprung base, rather than a slat base will help prolong the life of your mattress.

6. "My partner weighs almost twice as much as I do. Should we sleep in separate beds?

If you're both sleeping on an old, saggy mattress you'll be familiar with the "hills and valleys" syndrome. The lighter partner sleeps on the hillside, while the heavier partner sleeps in the valley. However, a well-designed mattress should be able to give both you and your partner the support you require, regardless of weight discrepancies. Continuous spring systems, such as Sleepmaker Miracoil, offer the Z shape; more surface coverage than the majority of other innerspring mattresses and more working wire to give better weight distribution. Also, Miracoil has helical wires that run from head to toe, transferring weight displacement down the length of the bed, minimising the disturbance you may feel from your partner.

7. "How can I tell if I need a new mattress?"

Trust your body! If you're waking up to little aches and pains (some that might last all day), it's generally a good indicator that your body isn't getting the proper rest and support that it needs throughout the night.

8. "Do I need to replace my base when purchasing a new mattress?"

A good base is equally as important as a good mattress. It acts like a shock absorber, taking a lot of the normal nightly wear and tear. A mattress on a slatted base will feel firmer than the same mattress on a sprung base. If the mattress you're testing is on a sprung base, ask the staff in the store if they will place it on the floor to test how it will feel on a slatted base.

9. "How Do I Shop For A Mattress?"

Ideally you will want to look at a large range of models with mattresses ranging from soft to firm. Major or specialist retailers are more likely to have a big selection to choose from, as well as staff that are more likely to be trained to give you useful advice rather than just a sales pitch. They may also have cutaway models demonstrating the spring system and comfort layers that make up the mattress.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can easily remove to lie down.

Take your time! You can't judge support and comfort by sitting on the edge of a bed or lying down for just a few seconds. Lie on the bed for at least 10 minutes in your sleeping position/s, and if you sleep with a partner, take them with you to decide what's best together.

Make sure the base under the mattress you are testing is similar to, or the same as, the one it will be on in your home.
