Why is a new bed important?

Your bed is your everyday haven. A place where you can retreat, relax, snuggle down & escape.

Experience peaceful moments of me time. Sleeping in, early nights, late nights, doing nothing or doing it all. It’s time to celebrate the simple pleasures in life and delight in the pure comfort, absolute quality and total support that is SleepMaker.

Ensure you make the most of each day through creating your own dream world and enabling you to:

  • Look forward to going to bed and truly relax at the end of each day
  • Wake feeling refreshed and healthy
  • Celebrate and experience all life has to offer.

To create your personal dream world, having a mattress that compliments your body and the way you sleep is crucial. Often people see purchasing a mattress as just something that meets a functional need and they miss the opportunity for it to become a place of pure comfort. It is important to take your time, try several different models, and ask as many questions as you need to, when you visit your SleepMaker retailer, to ensure you get the best match possible. Most of all, don't think of your purchase as fulfilling a functional need - but the opportunity to create your very own haven.

At SleepMaker, we understand that finding the right bed can be hard. That's why we have a number of different tools on our website to make it as simple as possible to find the right sleep system for you.

Our Mattress Selector is a useful tool to help you identify what you need and match you to a great bed. If you like to research and compare check out our Range of Beds which gives you detailed information about the different mattresses in our range.

Things to reflect on

A bed is an important investment in your ability to enjoy life, and when you consider that every $1000 you spend represents just 27cents a night, over 10 years, it's worthwhile choosing in a bed that you can enjoy. Make sure you take your time while trialing beds in store.

The best mattress for you isn't necessarily the priciest one

Pure comfort means different things to different people. SleepMaker has a wide range of mattresses to cater to everyone’s personal wants and preferences.

Many of our mattresses feature a pillow top which adds a soft enveloping comfort layer to the bed.

The internal foam and spring technology within a mattress gives your body the support it needs, whilst the pillow top creates the softness on the top of the bed.

Everyone’s preference is different, so have a think as to whether you prefer a shallower comfort layer or a deeper comfort layer that will contour to your body.

Nothing beats experiencing a mattress in person, so when you’re in store, make sure you check out the different comfort layer options in your mattress choice.

The average lifespan of a mattress is about 8-10 years

After this time, if used regularly, a mattress may have deteriorated by as much as 75% from its original condition.

An old mattress isn't hygienic

Dampness and water absorption within a mattress will result in a less peaceful nights sleep, with the bed feeling uncomfortable and chilly. SleepMaker’s commitment to innovation has included research and investment into the latest air circulation techniques and fabrics that promote a drier, more cozy and hygienic sleep.

All SleepMaker beds contain quality Australian made Dunlop Foams which are all Ultra-Fresh protected to guard against unwanted sleeping companions such as dust mites.

Bed size does matter

Make the most of your retreat by having the most space around you that you can. The more room you have in your bed, the more peacefully you will sleep, especially if you’re sleeping with a partner. Space around you helps promote a more settled sleep.

Two people sleeping together should select at least a queen, or preferably a king or super king, sized bed to give you sufficient space. See our mattress sizes page for more information.

It also pays to take into account younger family members who may end up sharing your bed. They may be little, but they can take up a surprising amount of space.

Minimise being woken at night by partner movement

Many people have their peaceful sleep disrupted either by being woken or through their partner moving and disturbing the mattress at night. We have different technologies such as Cocoon Core and Australian Made 5 Zoned Pocket Spring to minimise this, so if this is an important to you, make sure you let your salesperson know.

We're not all created equal

As you can imagine the support a jockey needs different support to a rugby player. The Mattress Selector can help you with a match to give you support that suits your body type.

Other things to consider

Have a think about how important these things are so you can discuss them in-store with your sales person.

  • Do you suffer from allergies?
  • Do you have a preference for natural fibres and materials?
  • Do you tend to feel hot or cold in bed as your mattress can impact this?
  • Do you have a personal ‘feel’ preference in terms of your mattress design?
  • Do you need more bedroom storage?
  • Do you spend a lot of time sitting up in bed reading, online or watching TV?
  • How do you want your bed to look once made up?
