Back Pain – Hidden causes behind a sore back

If you currently suffer from back pain you are not alone.  According to healthdirect.govt.au, around 80% of Australians experience back pain and 10% have significant disability as a result. Injury, pregnancy, incorrect heavy lifting and sedentary office workstyles have an effect on back health.

Could your mattress be to blame?

Sometimes you’re doing the most damage while you are sleeping. People don’t realise that their pain maybe directly attributed to their mattress. A mattress can deteriorate up to 50% from its ‘new’ state over the course of 10 years. Mattress comfort layer compression, broken springs, and retention of moisture are all part of common wear and tear and ultimately all have a negative impact on the level of support and comfort your mattress offers. As a result, many people suffer from back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain and hip pain.

Say goodbye to back, hip and shoulder pain

How do you know if your mattress is the cause of your discomfort? If you wake up each morning with tenderness in your hips, back or shoulders and find that after walking around or stretching out you stop hurting, it’s fair to say your mattress is probably contributing to your pain.
Choosing the right mattress for your body is one of the easiest ways to soothe this pain. Sleeping on a mattress not suited to your body can reinforce unnatural spinal alignment causing poor posture, straining muscles and creating pressure points. While you sleep your ligaments, spine and muscles should completely relax and restore themselves. During this important time your spine should be in neutral alignment, meaning your spine is level and doesn’t unnaturally curve too much. It is also key that your whole body is supported rather than your weight pooling on specific points like your hip and shoulder joints.
Find a mattress with great lumber support, which minimises partner disturbance and cushions your whole body. https://www.sleepmaker.com.au/sleepmaker-selector/sleepmaker-selector.
