What is Q4?
Q4 Coils use Quad Strand Engineering to provide a remarkably stable and supportive sleep experience. The coils are engineered from four strands of heat-tempered wire wound together, creating a coil that's not only incredibly strong but also highly responsive to individual body movements. This means that coils seamlessly adapt as sleepers shift positions during the night, providing consistent support.

Mattress springs experience bending fatigue |
A mattress spring is almost never overloaded. Instead, failure happens gradually, over time. Every night the spring is compressed and released repeatedly over several hours. Each compression causes the wire to bend, stressing the outer surface of the wire. This goes on for years, with the spring losing a tiny amount of performance each cycle. |
Fatigue causes incremental deterioration |
Fatigue happens at the microscopic level. Micro-cracks form on the surface of the wire where bending stress is highest. These cracks grow a tiny amount each cycle, gradually making springs weaker and less resilient. This is why older mattresses may feel soft long before anything breaks, and why they offer less support near the end of their life. |
Thinner strands resist fatigue better |
Thinner wire strands bend more gently, experiencing less strain per wire. This means that micro-cracks take longer to appear, and there will be fewer of them. A cable coil design made of thinner wires will resist fatigue better than a spring made of a single thicker wire. This is why aircraft cables, elevators and high-end suspension systems use many thin wires twisted together, not a few thicker ones. |

When you have a spring that is made of multiple wire strands twisted together, fatigue is shared across all of the wires. This means damage to each individual strand is proportionately less.
